For the second straight year, Alife® celebrates Black History Month by releasing a series of six hoodies. Each hoodie features the names of prominent Black men and women that were pivotal to promoting African American civil rights, culture, and values in the United States.

The names, prominently displayed on the front of the hoodies, include Eldridge Cleaver, W.E.B. Du Bois, Medgar Evers, Fred Hampton, Assata Shakur, and Nina Simone. The straightforward design and bold font on the hoodies aims to draw attention to the power of the figures’ names and the movements that they championed.

Assata Shakur, from Flushing, Queens, New York city, is a former member of the Black Liberation Army. Shakur spent her years prior to joining the BLA as a political activist at both the borough of Manhattan Community College and City College of New York. She is most notably recognized for being convicted as an accomplice to a first degree murder in New Jersey in 1973. After spending six and a half years of a lifelong prison sentence, Shakur escaped and sought unofficial asylum in Cuba where she currently lives, and has since been the first woman to be added to the FBI’s most wanted list.

The heather grey hooded sweatshirts are all made of a heavyweight, pre-shrunk 14 oz fleece, with the name screen printed on the chest, and ribbed cuffs and sides.
